I planted a garden. Again. This year. As in, same garden. Same place. Same dirt...just a few months after we planted the other one.

Yeah, the other one didn’t so much grow. Well, the sweet peas, bless them, they grew. But the corn, pumpkins, and whatever else we tried, didn’t grow. I didn’t water them a single time – it was quite rainy so I figured.. Well, I figured wrong. Plus, there was frost a few times. Poor little fragile lifelings. They didn’t make it. So we tried again. One thing is for sure, I can grow weeds. Those things are the happiest, healthiest, most plentiful bunch of living creatures I’ve seen. Surprisingly, however, I like weeding. It’s tough to find time.. the weeds to stink or cry or promise me money, they just proliferate. And I try to keep up.

This time I got advice as to how to plant my seeds. How deep. Where. When. What. It’s funny, the directions are the same on the back of all the seed packages. It said to plant them pretty deep, which I did. Who knows. Could have been the depth, the lack of water, the frost, the early planting.. a, b, c, d, or e-all of the above. With great hope, we will try one more time. It’s pretty typical of me to plant so early. I tend to do that in life. I think, “Ah, directions.. I get the general idea. It’s common sense, how could it go wrong, let’s just try it and see what happens.” The good news is sometimes things go splendidly. On the other hand, I can wreck things because in all honesty, without timing it right, I’m wasting my time.

To everything
a season -
years
hours
moments
instants
destiny in a second
so fleeting a thing
hinging as if on butterfly's wings
hanging
fleeting… fleeing
Ah, the impossible
and yet
signs, if we will see
indicate
demarcate
discriminate
delineate
differentiate
isolate
distinguish
what was im-possible
a moment ago
as right
as ripe
as ready
as now
but there is a word
I usually prefer not to observe,
and that is..
to WAIT

and when that occurs
.. what's left behind
is waste
precious possibilities
with potential like a seed
latent, deep

until
what is designed
and destined
combine
to create life...
if only i could have
waited
learned
observed

believed

until time
and all its secrets and clues
opened up my patient mind
showed me
when
and where
to move.

sounds to me like your garden is growing pretty well over there in spite of what your plants are doing...

I'm so glad you have a garden. Or two.
